Science pre-service teachers’ experience with mentors during teaching practice

This study aims to explore how mentor teachers and the school environment helped pre-service develop their pedagogical skills, thereby, closing gap between theory practice. The is based on a survey research design consisting of 75 participants third final year students at teaching university in South Africa. completed Google questionnaire where responses were given five-point Likert scale from strongly disagree, agree. results indicate that although most received necessary guidance practical lessons as well assessment, significant proportion not adequately assisted. A large schools did have laboratories, laboratory equipment, chemicals. has implications for professional development science before service. There dire need all be developed by selecting appropriate context which practice done knowledge, specific values successful entry into career Furthermore, properly oriented about mentoring roles, management team must assist monitoring process.
